Frequently Asked Questions

Most frequently asked questions (with answers!)

“A portrait is not made in the camera but on either side of it.”

What is boudoir photography?

A boudoir shoot is usually a sexy and sensual photoshoot where you pose in lingerie or partially nude in luxurious surroundings, although location & clothing can be tailored to individual requirements.

Boudoir photography is very tasteful and nudity tends to be implied rather than explicit. Lighting and shadows are used to create a flattering light that shows off your favourite parts of your body.

I'd like to do a boudoir photoshoot but feel a little nervous...

Most women I work with have never been photographed in this way and nerves come from the fear of the unknown.

Nerves are completely natural and can even add to the excitement and anticipation of the day but I can promise you this feeling will disappear quickly, you will soon feel at ease and enjoy the full experience as you are guided through your poses.

How long does a boudoir session take?

Makeup and hair takes around 60 – 90 mins & a basic photographic session (2-3 outfits) is around another 90 mins. Allow a minimum of 3 hours from start to finish.

Extra outfits can be added for £45 each (30 – 45 mins per outfit)

And yes nude counts as an outfit!

Can I bring someone with me to my shoot?

You are more than welcome to bring a supportive friend (plus they’re super handy for holding reflectors & kettle duty!) although sometimes an audience can be distracting and make a client feel self-conscious, if this occurs your friend may be asked to leave the room.

  • This may change due to COVID-19 restrictions

Do I have a say in the types of shots I want?

Absolutely.

We have a chat before the shoot about what your looking for & favourite styles of photos and you can make an inspirational board of images on Pinterest,if desired.

You can also leave it all to me if you’re not sure.

Will I have to pose nude?

Nope, not at all. There are no specifics when it comes to boudoir, it is up to you and I will never push you to go beyond your comfort level.

We will discuss your comfort level about possible nudity during pre-shoot consultation & you’re free to change your mind either way at any time.

I once spoke to a woman who wouldn’t do a boudoir shoot because another photographer told her that boudoir meant she would have to pose topless – which you absolutely don’t! (FYI – it’s French for woman’s bedroom or private room) .

There are ways to imply nudity such as artistic lighting & posing, wearing a sheer top, being nude under the sheets, which can produce tasteful, elegant nude pictures, if that is what you would like.

It’s your call.

I don't want anyone to see my photos, will they be on your website or online anywhere?

Privacy is very important at Fine Art Boudoir Photography so not unless you say it’s okay!

Due to the personal nature of boudoir photography it’s totally fine if you’d rather keep them private.

Images are NEVER shared anywhere without your permission, by default they will only be seen by whomever YOU choose to share them with, if anyone.

Your images will only be viewable by you via a password encrypted private gallery.

Permission is always required to use images from any session on my website, social media, or promotional material & you will need to sign a model release when you grant permission.

I want to do a boudoir shoot for an upcoming special occasion - when should I book?

I recommend booking a session 2 – 3 months before the desired date of product delivery if possible, shorter timeframes may be possible but not guaranteed.

So, as soon as you’ve decided you want to shoot, book your session!

How much does a boudoir photoshoot cost & what's included?

  • Location booking (Studio/Hotel)
  • Complimentary glass of prosecco on arrival
  • Professional makeup & hair styling

A male boudoir photographer??

Ah yes, the proverbial elephant in the room!

While some women are unsure about a male boudoir photographer, others prefer a man’s perspective.

It’s very much a personal choice.

A common consensus is that it can be easier for a woman to show her sexy side in front of the camera with a male photographer because its a dynamic they are somewhat familiar with.

I usually work with a female assistant who is present throughout shoot & guarantee a completely comfortable & professional atmosphere.
